Dance performance features Persian, Bollywood and tap dances
Simon's Rock dance students and teacher Wendy Shifrin will give a performance on Dec. 7 and 8 in the McConnell Theater of the Daniel Arts Center, at 7:30p.m.
The dances will represent a broad range of style and custom, from Persian to Bollywood, belly dancing to tap. Two dances will be accompanied by poetry. At least 24 separate dances will be performed on December 7 and 8. Lighting design will be provided by Andre Schiff and his lighting design students.
The dances are choreographed and organized by faculty member Wendy Shifrin, who choreographs and presents two dances each year at Simon's Rock.
The dance performance is free and the public is welcome.
Vocal recital Dec. 9
Gigi Teeley presents the annual vocal recital of her vocal students and the Vocal Performance: Opera and Musical Theater class. The recital will take place on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Kellogg Music Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
The recital will feature solos, duets, trios and quartets from La Boheme, The Fantasticks, Hansel & Gretel, The Last Five Years, Merrily We Roll Along, My Fair Lady, Pirates of Penzance, Spamalot, Sweeney Todd, Wicked and also works by Bach, Berlioz, Grieg and Mozart.
Hilda Banks Shapiro will be the concert accompanist, and participating students are the following: Evyn Casey, Carissa Dagenais, Faye Donnelly, Hannah Dunne, Brianna Gonyea, Alexis Koda, Hannah MacDonald, Sarah Means, Casey Parles, Blake Ross, Torin Rozelle, Samantha Scott, Lily Tucker, Rich Vaden, Stephanie Waldo, Greg Walker and Sean Wang.
Early Music Collegium performs works from the 16th century
The Early Music Collegium at Simon's Rock presents its first concert on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kellogg Music Center. The Collegium will be performing 16th century music from France, Germany and England, with recorders, viols and singing. Community Music Program faculty Lucy Bardo directs the Collegium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature the members of the Collegium: Matthew Christian, Brian Conolly, Sarah Jimenez, Victoria Kelley, Phyu Hninn Nyein, Lauren Paul, David Sharpe and Gabriella Spitz, with guest performers Evan Merck and Eleanor Phelps.
