The registrar's office, usually reserved for panicked students trying to fit in their requirements, sign up for courses, and send transcripts, was unusually full of adults. However, a look of panic was not upon their faces.

Despite the fact that Rochelle Duffy, the registrar of eight years, had submitted her resignation, a new registrar was already hard at work, and Duffy was right by her side.

Heidi Rothberg, a South County native, was spending her first full day at work learning the ropes from the woman who knows them best of all—Duffy herself. The office was bustling, and Rothberg was at the center of it all, looking slightly nervous but happy to be there, to begin her work at filling Duffy's shoes.

Rothberg, who used to work as a System Architecture Manager at Berkshire Life Insurance in Pittsfield, is no stranger to the tight-knit community of Simon's Rock. Her daughter attends Simon's Rock and Rothberg says that she "got into the habit of frequently checking the website" for news and updates.

Rothberg says one day a few months ago, she noticed that a position as the new registrar had opened up and decided to submit her resume. "I wanted a job closer to home."

On Feb. 15, Rothberg was part of an open forum in which people could fill out candidate evaluation forms. Rothberg got the job over Joel Fried, whose forum was held the day before Rothberg's.

The registrar's job is to update the course guides, keep track of the student records, and process registration and withdrawals.

When asked about the job requirements, Rothberg was versed in what needed to be done, and very aware that the job she was about to begin is an essential one to the Simon's Rock community.

"I definitely feel ready for this job," Rothberg says. One thing Rothberg says she already has is her love for Simon's Rock. "I am exited to be here because it is such a great community—one that I cannot wait to become an active part of."
